La trama del Satyricon riprende in maniera parodistica l'Eneide virgiliana. Le peripezie che Encolpio subisce richiamano quelle subite da Enea, ma Encolpio è vittima del dio della fecondità, Priapo, che causa, con effetti comici, crisi di impotenza al protagonista.
